Dumas Disaster
February 26, 2007 - 2:15 pm - Wow Sarah! It looks aweful! You really captured it. So glad Taylor's family was ok.

- I have no words.....so happy to hear Taylor's family is alright.
Jeremy was supposed to have headed down on Sunday night to audit a bank in Dumas all week. I'm not sure which bank, but I know it is across the street from Fred's and the hotel over there. He spoke with one of the ladies who works in the bank today, and a couple of their employees lost their homes. So sad. My heart pours out to all the people down there.

- It's amazing what tornadoes can do. This one really "hit home", though, because I grew up in Dumas, and my parents still live in that area. Fortunately my family is all okay, but the town will never be the same again.
It's so weird to see all the destruction in places I used to go. My mom would still sometimes go to The Mad Butcher, which was demolished.
A third of the town's businesses were destroyed, and 800 people are without jobs. It's sad... It's much different to see these pictures when it involves places and people I know.

- The pics really captured a lot of te devestation.
Merchant and Farmers bank is the one across from Fred's.
The second funnel/tornado to go through Dumas knocked down a few more light poles than were originally knocked over by the first twister.
Buildings looked like they were blown up with dynamite.
I rode out to Walnut Lake Cemetary and it was as if the twister followed three primary water towers for the city of Dumas....I rode out northeast of Dumas and there appeared to be some of Arkat's metal scattered more than 5 mile from its original location.
I also grew up in Dumas.
